Firefighter's Prayer

When I'm called to duty God
wherever flames may rage
give me strength to save a life
whatever be its age

Help me to embrace a little child
before it is too late
or save an older person from
the horror of that fate

Enable me to be alert
to hear the weakest shout
and quickly and efficiently
to put the fire out

I want to fill my calling and
to give the best in me
to guard my neighbor and
protect his property

And if according to your will
I have to lose my life
bless with your protecting hand
my children and my wife.

In Memory of Jim "Skinny" Evans

Picture
Skinny at the age of 81 passed away on May 12, 2011. He was a 52 year member of Hilltop Hose Co. #5 where he served as Past Captain and was the first recipient of the Bob Barry Award. He was a social member of Webster Hose Co. # 3, a charter member of the CT State Fire Police, a member of the Ansonia Fire Police, the American Legion in Shelton, and the Senior Housing Board in Shelton. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member who showed by example not just by words. Skinny is one of the main reasons that Hilltop Hose has the ability to bring the Mack to parades, allowing a legacy for current and future members to reflect upon.
